  Married: Truth (Sydney, NSW : 1894 - 1954) Sun 4 Dec 1938 Albert John Lancelot Giddings, company director, of 17a Trelawney-street, Woollahra told the judge that he married Nancy Harlin Hicks on June 7, 1927, at St. Kilda. Melbourne. They came to live in Macleay-street, Potts Point, and by November, 1929, Mrs. Giddings had become nervy. He suggested she take a holiday in Brisbane. After a week or 10 days he received a letter saying she had decided not to return. Life in Sydney had no interest for her, she said. People bored her. She didn't like his friends. Giddings went by plane to Brisbane, Asked her to return. She refused. However, she returned in February, 1930. About that time he became in some what straightened circumstances, and bought a farm at Camden. They lived there until November, 1933. Mrs. Giddings became very restive. She could see no future in life down on the farm. She had an income of her own. Some friends came to see her in a car and there was talk of her leaving. She decided to stay. The farm was sold in February, 1934. They lived at Edgecliff, Rose Bay and then Woollahra. In 1935 Giddings became interested in the management of a company that established a golf club at Pagewood, South Kensington. About May 1937, the business at the golf course grew to such an extent that Giddings was on the job seven days a week. This caused trouble with Mrs. Giddings. He was then managing the course. However, they continued to live together until December 28, 1937. In August, 1937, she went to Melbourne to a women's golf meeting. On ten days and stayed three weeks. On her return there was some disagreement about his having to batch. He found it very difficult. In November 1937. he came home one night and found a note that she had gone away for four or five days to try and settle herself down. She had gone to Melbourne. There was a disagreement because he didn't know where she had gone. Then she left finally. To Counsel : Between November and December the atmosphere WAS rather frigid. Giddings told the judge that he did everything possible to get his wife to stay. He wrote two letters and got two replies. He spoke to her in January on business subjects — she has interests in his company — but she refused to return. On November I, 1938, Giddings flew to Brisbane. His wife has been living there since March. He talked with her for four or five hours, but she would not return. 'You are the only woman in the world I love,' he wrote to her. 'I want you to come back. . . . Married people always quarrel, but they forget and forgive. Let us do so. The door is open. Please come back.' She wrote: 'I cannot believe that it would be any use trying to patch up something that has already been over patched.' The usual restitution order was issued.
